The Bulla Dairy Foods factory development in Colac represented a flagship project for Kelly Civil Construction, showcasing the company’s capability to successfully deliver large-scale civil infrastructure and structural concrete works within a major industrial environment. Awarded both the civil and structural concrete packages, Kelly Civil Construction played a key role in the delivery of this significant food manufacturing facility.
The project encompassed the construction of approximately 10,000 square metres of external pavements, including heavy-duty concrete pavement designed for industrial vehicle movements and bitumen car parking areas to service the expanded facility. In addition, Kelly Civil Construction delivered the structural concrete works for the factory footprint, comprising approximately 8,500 square metres of foundations and floor slabs for the new factory.
Early works included bulk earthworks, site cut and levelling, and the installation of underground services infrastructure. Extensive trenching and drainage works were undertaken to establish the site’s stormwater and service networks, ensuring the facility was prepared for subsequent stages of construction.
The structural concrete package involved the excavation, formwork, reinforcement fixing, and placement of concrete across the factory footprint, delivering high-quality structural elements to support the facility’s operational requirements. Throughout the project, close coordination was maintained with the principal contractor, consultants, and multiple trades to ensure efficient sequencing and integration of works across the development.
Delivery of both the civil and structural scopes demonstrated Kelly Civil Construction’s ability to self-perform complex, multidisciplinary works on major industrial projects while maintaining strict quality, safety, and programme requirements.
The successful completion of the project provided Bulla Dairy Foods with modern manufacturing infrastructure and durable external pavements designed to support long-term operations and future growth at the Colac facility.
